Powers and abilities

Sand manipulation: 

She can create, shape and manipulate sand. It can be used for both offensive and defensive. The sand that is in her control usually has a golden glow, hence her nickname. If the sand is wet, however, it's harder for her to manipulate it. Mud is completely out of the question. So wet weather is her greatest weakness.
Sand touch: 

Has the ability to transform people and objects into small particles, ranging in size from relatively rough to fine dust. Can happen involuntarily, thus needs a lot of control. She can regenerate the objects she had turned into sand back into their original state.
Granulation: 

The enhanced ability of Sand touch. With this, she is able to transform herself into sand and later on regenerate herself, which is usually used as a means of transportation.
Powder manipulation: 

She can not only control sand, but also create, shape and manipulate powder, material composed of very fine particles, including flour, ground coffee, powdered milk, cosmetic powders, gunpowder, powdered sugar, fine snow, household dust, volcanic ash, etc.

Strengths and weaknesses

Strengths: Dry, dusty places. She's fast and flexible. Is able to concentrate and make a quick decision under pressure. Always finds a way out of a situation.
Weaknesses: Wet places. Rain. Hand-to-hand combat (yeah, she's not the best fighter out there, but she's learning). Loses her temper quickly and tends to end up using her powers unwillingly against someone.

History

Born to Joseph, an explorer, and Kristine, a doctor, Christa had a good childhood, living in a big house, having loads of toys to play with, etc. When she was 7, her sister Chloe was born and she was really excited about it. She always took care of her baby sister and loved to play with her. Her father was away from home very often due to various expeditions to different places in the world. But sometimes he would take Christa with him, like during summer or some holidays so that she wouldn't have to miss school. 

And so at the age of 14, Joseph took her with him to Africa where they explored a small, newly discovered pyramid together with a group of archeologists and explorers. Naturally, she was very excited and followed her father wherever he went. Though as they got deeper inside the pyramid, they found that many of the passageways were very narrow and none of the archeologists could fit through. Christa suggested that she could go through there, but was rejected by everyone because it could be dangerous down there. After long arguments and pleading, she was still not allowed to go to the inner parts of the pyramid, so they explored as much as they could during the day and decided to think of a solution the next day. 

However, the girl was extremely stubborn and wanted to prove that she could go down there and be perfectly fine, so as the night came and everyone was asleep, she snuck into the pyramid and went down to find the central room where people would usually find the sarcophagus, maybe even treasure. Eager to find that, she wandered around the pyramid, going lower and lower underground, until she reached a large room, richly decorated with green gems and, of course, with the sarcophagus in the middle. Excited of her discovery, Christa went further in the room and explored it thoroughly, even taking one of the gems to show her father. 

But this exciting moment didn't last for long because a sudden and really strong earthquake struck the area, which scared her a lot since she might have as well activated some kind of trap. So she ran for the exit, but as soon as she did, all the gems started glowing in a bright yellow color, blinding her and making her stop in her tracks. Unbeknownst to her, it was a defence system created by strong ancient magic to preserve the inner pats of the pyramid in case of such earthquakes. The top of it got completely shattered, but the underground passegeways and rooms were left untouched. What happened next, is still a huge mystery for her.

Christa woke up outside the ruined pyramid, all alone. The tents that they had built were all buried under the sand, there were some big cracks in the ground and absolutely no one was around. And the gem that she had been holding in her hands was gone as well, only strange tattoos had appeared there. She was later found by a rescue team and was said to be the only survivor. After this tragedy, her life changed completely.

Soon after coming back home, Christa descovered her powers and at first was freaked out, but found them quite useful later on. Her mother didn't do too well with the loss of her husband, however. Kristine dug herself completely in work, taking extra shifts and basically spending her time at the hospital, although it didn't do much because the money didn't come easy. So it was now Christa's responsibility to take care of her baby sister, to feed her, dress her, take to and from school, etc. Not long after, she started using her powers to steal things, money and other valuables, to have just a little bit more money family, later on creating the persona of Golden Dust. Ever since the events in Africa, she's been obsessed with green gems, as she really wants to find out what kind of gems were in that pyramid and what kind of power they possess.

Well, the history part came out WAY longer than I intended, but I struggled with it A LOT. Like, I started writing this on, like, Saturday and finished it just now. xD Because I really wanted to do something (more or less) original. I mean, there are SO MANY characters that have gained their powers in very similar ways, for example, some kind of lab experiments, bitten by animals/bugs, inheritance (like, y'know, some special species (kryptonians, martians, etc.), half-bloods, etc.) and so on. But how many characters are actually powered by super cool ancient magic, huh? HUH?!

I really hope that the story doesn't sound too unrealistic or whatsoever. Like I said, I struggled a lot with it. But in the end, I kinda like it.

The outfit design belongs to Wacky06, however, I've tweaked it a little, I hope you don't mind! I suppose, I just wanted her to look more.. girly. xD
